Η κατεδάφιση τοίχων κρίθηκε απαραίτητη προκειμένου να δημιουργηθούν ανοιχτοί, ενιαίοι χώροι αντανακλώντας τον σύγχρονο τρόπο διαβίωσης. Η κεντρική είσοδος «ανοίγει» στον χώρο της υποδοχής και του καθιστικού, ο οποίος σηματοδοτείται από την ιδιαίτερη οροφή του, από σκουρόχρωμη, κυματοειδή λαμαρίνα. Δύο υπνοδωμάτια, ανεξάρτητη κουζίνα, λουτρό, χώρος εργασίας και φιλοξενίας συμπληρώνουν τα 86τ.μ. της κατοικίας. Τα στοιχεία που διατηρήθηκαν ενσωματώθηκαν σε έναν αρμονικό συνδυασμό κλασικού και μοντέρνου στυλ που χαρακτηρίζεται από πρωτότυπες αντιθέσεις.
Tο παλιό δρύινο δάπεδο και οι αδρές επιφάνειες πατητής τσιμεντοκονίας, τα διατηρημένα, έγχρωμα τσιμεντοπλακίδια, τα στοιχεία βιομηχανικού ύφους, το νέο δάπεδο από βινύλιο, τα παλαιά ξύλινα έπιπλα και το σύγχρονο design δημιουργούν ένα ιδιαίτερο και αρμονικό αποτέλεσμα. Χρωματικά κυριαρχεί μια παλέτα σε αποχρώσεις του γκρι και του λευκού, διαμορφώνοντας το ιδανικό φόντο για τις mix & match διακοσμητικές επιλογές σε ζωηρούς τόνους. Τα έπιπλα είναι σχεδιασμένα και κατασκευασμένα αποκλειστικά για τις ανάγκες του χώρου, ενώ η διακόσμηση ολοκληρώνεται με αντικείμενα που έχουν συλλέξει οι ιδιοκτήτες από τα ταξίδια τους.

Το τελικό αποτέλεσμα είναι ένας ιδιαίτερος, προσωπικός χώρος που αντανακλά την ικανότητα των παλιών κτισμάτων να φιλοξενήσουν έναν σύγχρονο τρόπο διαβίωσης, μέσα από μια νεωτεριστική ματιά διατηρώντας ταυτόχρονα τη χρονική τους υπόσταση.

Τhe residence is located on the ground floor of a two-storey building dating back to the 1960s, one of the few that have been preserved in the center of Ioannina. The maintenance of an old building and its transformation in order to meet the new needs requires respect to its structure, as a footprint of the human presence in the space.
The facades were restored and the necessary work was conducted regarding the energy upgrading and the modernization of the building, while the interior of the apartment was reconstructed and turned into a cozy place. The main entrance “opens” in the reception area and the living room, which is characterized by its distinctive roof made from dark, corrugated metal sheet, while two bedrooms, a separate kitchen, a bathroom, as well as a guest room and a working space complete the floor plan of the residence.

The old oak floor and the rough surfaces of forged cement, the preserved colourful cement tiles and the industrial style elements, the new vinyl flooring and the old wooden furniture, prove in the best way that the old can coexist with the new. Most of the new furniture is designed and constructed exclusively for the needs of the residence, while the decoration is completed with items from the trips of the owners.
